Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Kiss of Midnight:
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .

Lara Adrian pulled me right into her world, her vampire lore is completely unique and a refreshing change for this reader. And although there are some similarities between the Breed and another vampire series I love, I still found myself turning page after page. The pacing is quick, and the action is immediate, Lara's sex scenes are hot and steamy, and quite frequent throughout the entirety of this book!

Gabrielle finds herself thrust into a dangerous world after witnessing a brutal attack by a group of men outside a bar, only what she sees is more than just a gang of human men. When Lucan comes to her home posing as a police detective, he finds himself resisting his violent attraction to Gabrielle. And when he discovers that she is genetically compatible with his race, his need to protect her increases. Gabrielle learns the truth and feels betrayed by Lucan's deception, but she also learns of the personal battle in which he engages and protects his secrets from his fellow warrior brethren; and it is her trust in him that ultimately brings them together. The Rogues, once thought of as disorganized, and individual hunters are coming together, and under the mysterious leadership of someone from Lucan's past, they are planning to destroy Lucan and everything he cares about.

  1. Although this one might be a little steamy for my own reading taste, I have a daughter who would totally love it! Thanks for the review!
