Dream Smashers by Angela Carlie Review & Giveaway

Dream Smashers:
Sixteen-year-old Autumn has spent her entire life worrying about others. Her ailing grandma, meth-addicted mom, and a best friend who is always in trouble. She's spent the last few years attempting to worry less, to be carefree, without success.

Enter Evan, whose radiant attitude is an Autumn magnet. With Evan at her side, Autumn's able to let some of her worries go as they trudge through life's difficulties and fall for each other in the process.

A girl who no longer wants to care and a boy who cares enough for the both of them, Dream Smashers is a love story, but most of all, it's about letting go.

This was an amazing, heart-breaking read by Angela Carlie. I read this book in one day; once I picked it up, I simply couldn't put it down. Angela dug right into the gritty psyche of an addict, unafraid to make a less than desirable, but realistic, character and the changes that occur during the downward spiral of addiction. I enjoyed the realistic characters and the dynamic relationships, and how Angela showed that appearances can be deceiving. The sweet romance between Autumn and Evan was enchanting and kept me turning pages. The changing point of views gives you a more in-depth understanding of the emotions experienced by Autumn, Evan and Jacinda (Autumn's mother), and I really enjoyed that about the book. All her life Autumn has carried the burdens that surround her upon her shoulders; her mother's addiction, her grandfather's death and the fact that her grandmother is getting older. She dreams of living a carefree life, and makes a plan to succeed; only the harder she tries the more her burdens weigh her down. That is until she meets Evan, a blind date that turned out to be a turning point in her life. Evan has strong beliefs in the teachings of Jesus, and through his gentle guidance Autumn learns to put her faith in a higher power and how to truly be happy.
