Evernight by Claudia Gray

Evernight:
Bianca wants to escape.

She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.

Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him.

"I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would."

But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

Claudia Gray created an interesting cast of characters and there is a plot twist in the middle that I wasn't expecting at all! The book was fast paced and flowed smoothly with an ending interesting enough to make me want to read the next book Stargazer. Lucas and Bianca literally run into each other while Bianca is executing her plan of escape from Evernight, and things quickly change for her as she becomes closer to Lucas. There is also Balthazar, an incredibly kind older student who seems to really care for Bianca, and is willing to protect her from becoming hurt. Both Lucas and Bianca are incredibly secretive, and Lucas is mysterious when it comes to his past. Bianca is treated with disdain by a lot of the other Evernight students, until something happens to dynamically change her relationship with Lucas. Both of them experience changes that they are not really ready for and seek the help of her parents, who Lucas distrusts until he really gets to know them. Life seems to be going a lot smoother, until suddenly the truth of Lucas' past is revealed and Bianca is caught in a web of confusion between survival and her need to be with Lucas.
