13 to Life:
Something strange is stalking the small town of Junction…
When junior Jess Gillmansen gets called out of class by Guidance, she can only presume it’s for one of two reasons. Either they’ve finally figured out who wrote the scathing anti-jock editorial in the school newspaper or they’re hosting yet another intervention for her about her mom. Although far from expecting it, she’s relieved to discover Guidance just wants her to show a new student around—but he comes with issues of his own including a police escort.
The newest member of Junction High, Pietr Rusakova has secrets to hide--secrets that will bring big trouble to the small town of Junction—secrets including dramatic changes he’s undergoing that will surely end his life early.
13 to Life by Shannon Delany is an amazing addition to the world of werewolf lore. I love her unique mythology of the origins of the werewolves and I hope that in Secrets and Shadows (out February 2011), we get to explore more of their history and the Russian experiments that birthed the existence of werewolves.
It's a love story about Jessie Gillmansen and Pietr Rusakova, caught amongst a web of lies and secrets, and struggling to overcome the mistake Jessie made when she pushed Pietr to date her friend Sarah. Ever since the tragic death of her mother, Jessie firmly believes that she is making the right decision when she sacrifices her own happiness and puts the happiness of others before her own. Changes in their lives are initiated when Pietr and Jessie's relationship begins pushing the boundaries of being "just friends", and Sarah's behavior becomes erratic--she becomes more like her old self before the accident. Things become dangerous when Pietr reveals his wolf to Jessie and shortly after the Rusakova family discovers a terrible betrayal that will change not only their lives, but also the lives of those close to them.
This sounds like a really great read, thanks for putting it on my radar! =)

ReplyDeleteAmy, thank you so much for this review! I'm glad you enjoyed the book and are looking forward to Secrets and Shadows--I promise there will be more about the experiments and some more bombs get dropped about characters and strange paranormal situations in the second and (of course) the third novel, too!
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if you could post your review on B&N and Amazon (etc.)--it helps authors (especially debut authors) a lot to have reviews in those spots, too.
Thank you again! :D
