My Book Boyfriend (84)

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme hosted by Missie of The Unread Reader and co-hosted by Lesley of My Keeper Shelf, in which we swoon over boys in books!
(I--as in me, Amy--don't like to use commercial photos, I like to use the authors' descriptions and my imagination.)

Jacián (Hah-see-AHN) Obergon
Book: Cryer’s Cross by Lisa McMann
Series: N/A

He’s eighteen: tough looking and muscular, with medium-brown skin and hair that is black and wavy. He’s athletic and a strong soccer player; while on the field he moves likes a dancer, and his dream is to someday play professionally. He was a junior councilor at a soccer summer camp for kids, so he’s more understanding and sensitive then people might believe. He falls hard for Kendall; and when she is in danger, no possibility will go unchecked if he can save her.

Quotes:

“I was out for a walk. I couldn’t sleep, and I had a really shitty evening, and the sky was awesome and, well, yeah. I went past your house and saw the upstairs all lit up from the road. On my way back it was darker, but I could see your silhouette in the window, just standing there. And, I don’t know…I just started walking down your driveway for some insane reason. I was feeling bad, and I figured you were too, and so I thought maybe you’d want to…I don’t know. Talk or something. It was stupid.” His eyes are hard and he looks off toward the parking lot.

“I’m so scared,” Kendall says again, a whisper this time.

“Tell me why,” Jacián says. “Do you know something? Did something happen?” He pulls away and looks at her. Wipes the tears from her cheeks with gentle fingers.

Kendall thinks for a long moment, trying to decide. Knowing anything she says about the desk will sound completely loony. “It’s crazy. I’m going crazy. I swear. I can’t tell you why. I—I don’t even know why.”

“What can I do to help you?” Jacián asks. His eyes are filled with concern. There is nothing left of his hardness, his anger from when Kendall first met him.

Kendall smacks his chest, but this time he is ready. He grabs her arm and holds it tightly to his chest, pulls her toward him. “Don’t.”

Kendall struggles one-armed to sit up, surprise on her face, “Don’t what?” She can feel his body heat through his shirt.

“I think you’re afraid to like me.” Jacián’s dark eyes slice into hers for a long moment before he speaks again. “If you want to touch me, Kendall, then touch me. Don’t hide behind those little girl slaps.”
