Meet Us At The Crossroads Tour Day 4: Jeri Smith-Ready

1. What paranormal author are you currently addicted to?

Seanan McGuire. She writes an adult urban fantasy series about a half-faerie (changeling) detective named October Daye. I’ve read the first two books, ROSEMARY AND RUE and A LOCAL HABITATION and just started Book 3, which just came out, AN ARTIFICIAL NIGHT. I love the main character’s sense of humor. She’s tough without resorting to violence at the drop of a hat. And the cast of characters are starting to feel like old friends.

2. What band or artist currently tops your play list?

This month, I’m obsessed with Mumford & Sons and the National, both of which were recommended to me by readers who said that the bands reminded them of my books (Mumford & Sons reminded one of Logan from SHADE, and the National makes another reader think of the WVMP vampire books.)

3. Do you have any projects you are currently working on that you are able to share? And can you give us a little teaser?

In November, I’ll have a short story in a YA vampire anthology called ETERNAL: MORE LOVE STORIES WITH BITE. Then SHADE’s sequel SHIFT comes out in May. My fourth vampire book for adults, LET IT BLEED, comes out in August. In the fall, Logan Keeley from SHADE and SHIFT gets to tell his story in an anthology called ENTHRALLED, which is a collection of stories by the authors on this year’s Smart Chicks Kick It Tour.

After I finish LET IT BLEED, I’ll be starting the third SHADE book, part of which takes place in Ireland. My brain is also turning over a brand-new idea for a big stand-alone YA. It definitely needs a few months to percolate before I start writing—I’m still searching for a name for the main character.

HOW THE TOUR WORKS:

Each day of The Crossroads Tour, a new research question will be revealed on The Crossroad Blog Tour main page, and each day the answer to that question will be found within one of the 16 different blog posts by Crossroads Tour authors. Your job is to get the question, read the blog posts, and collect all 16 answers by the end of the tour, on Halloween.

  1. Oh I'm big on Mumford and Sons right now too! Their Pod Cast with the video when they are in a studio is absolutely hilarious. I don't know if it's the accents or the interviewer or their instruments but I just haven't seen that many bands with an accordian, banjo, cello and singer that I loved. I haven't heard of National but I'll have to check them out. No one has heard of Mumford and sons except me and now anyone reading your interview!

I have Shade and it's the next book on my list after I review the books the publishers sent me. (I might sneak it in, some of these look dry).
