For William, life was as wicked and malicious as the beast he was trying destroy. Decades spent living a life of extravagance, domination and ravenous hunger haunted him. But when you live forever, the past never stays buried. And that which wishes to control you, will never let you go. William thought he found his escape, his one and only love, but the thing he fears the most could be the only thing that saves them. Or, it could doom them all.
Falling From Eternity by Megan Duncan is a short, heart-breaking whirl-wind romance. It’s a love story about a vampire searching for the meaning of his immortality, and a young woman searching for a place to say goodbye. The beginning moved at a really slow pace, but shortly thereafter picked up as more characters were introduced. I did find it difficult to connect with the characters, I felt their relationship could have used a little more depth, and it lacked that powerful tension that Megan has given her readers in previous works. There were almost two different storylines built into this short novel, but each connects to the other and intertwining smoothly at the end. Megan’s extraordinary use of the scenery in this novel makes it appear to be almost like a secondary character, creating a vivid flow and mood to the book.
William has turned his back on his clan, choosing to see humans as more than just an endless food supply and useless chattel. But his mentor sees things differently, and wants William to return to the traditional vampire ways. Close to giving up on his quest for humanity and the meaning of his life, William meets Autumn; a woman who is hiding a devastating secret. But she captures his heart, and in the short time that they spend together William finds the humanity within him that he was searching for. When something changes drastically in their relationship, William is forced to seek out his mentor for help, knowing there will be a high price to pay.
