Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Paranormalcy:
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Kiersten White seamlessly brought together the mysterious world of the paranormal and sweet romance. This book kept me interested from the very first page, with the secretive CIA-style agency that polices paranormals, and it's filled with non-stop action. I loved the story line and the originality this book brought to the young adult, urban fantasy genre. I am very much looking forward to the next book, Supernaturally. Kiersten created a strong, independent character in Evie, being alone nearly her entire life and working since she was eight for the International Paranormal Containment Agreement (IPCA), meant that she rarely looked to anyone else to solve her problems. All her life she has known nothing but the IPCA and their "bag and tag" policies when it comes to dealing with the different paranormal races. But that quickly changes when she catches a shape-shifting boy, Lend, as he attempted to infiltrate the compound. While she attempts to learn more about him, he opens her eyes to the possibility that not all paranormals are evil and out to harm humans. And although Evie's not quite sure if she trusts him, she is inexplicably drawn to him. Secrets and lies surround Evie, and when she discovers there may be something different about herself, her chance of finding answers is hindered by the attacks on paranormals living outside the compound. The compound itself becomes under attack by the same force that is killing the others, and Evie's first instinct is to save Lend. In doing so she gains more knowledge of the outside world, and what it might be like to have a normal life. Only it doesn't last long, as the person killing the other paranormals is getting closer, and someone from her life in the IPCA is after her and is willing to harm anyone getting in his way.
