Memory Zero by Keri Arthur

Memory Zero:
For Sam Ryan, life began at the age of fourteen. She has no memory of her parents or her past. For the ten years that Sam's been with the State Police, she's searched for clues to her identity. But it's as if all mention of her family has been deliberately wiped off the system. Everything changes the night she agrees to meet her missing partner, Jack, and barely survives his attempt to kill her. Charged with his murder, Sam finds herself accepting help from Gabriel Stern-a shapeshifter with secrets of his own. As Sam delves into her partner's death, it soon becomes clear that the key to surviving the present lies in unraveling the threads of her past-and discovering not just who she is, but what she is . . .

This was an incredible, action-packed beginning to Keri Arthur's Spook Squad trilogy. Keri adds a touch of science-fiction to her books that is never overwhelming and always manages to intensify the story itself; I am not a huge science-fiction fan, but I truly enjoy it in Keri's writing. Her characters were interesting and kept the book moving at a fast pace. Some questions were answered within this book, while others remain a mystery--and I'm definitely looking forward to Generation 18.

Samantha is a good cop, but when her partner of five years tries to kill her, the reputation she built for herself is destroyed. And when she tries to prove to everyone that there is more going on, a more sinister reason behind the attack, she has to put her trust in a stranger, Gabriel. Gabriel is a shapeshifter and works for another law enforcement agency, one that has the power to change Sam's life forever. He's also hiding more than he is willing to reveal, making it hard for someone like Sam to trust. With no memory of her past or parents, Sam quickly becomes entwined in a world of conspiracy and clones as she searches for the answers that will lead her to the truth. Trusting the wrong person could get her killed, and the only person she trusted enough to get close was her partner and he betrayed her. Slowly she begins to change as her and Gabriel are thrown together in a fight to save the lives of others, and their own.

Guest Blogger: Alex of Electrifying Reviews

Today I welcome Alex from Electrifying Reviews! Put down your bags, pull up a chair and tell me a story!

A lot of people automatically dismiss books that are self published or published by small publishers. Many think that if a book isn’t published with one of the huge publishers that it must be horrible, right? Wrong. Some of my absolutely favorite books are either self published or from small publishers. Here are a few of my favorites and why…

Switched by Amanda Hocking is one of my all time favorite books. It’s about trolls, but Amanda Hocking puts a spin on the tales we were all told as children. I’m not the only one who loves this self published series. In fact, movie rights have already been sold and St. Martin’s Griffin, one of the largest YA publishing companies recently bought the entire Trylle Trilogy of which Switched is the first book.

Rising Shadow by Jacquelyn Wheeler is about a group of teens who discover they have superpowers. This book is a book lovers of comic book characters, along with any YA reader will enjoy. There is currently three books in the series, with at least two more on their way. Fun fact: My review is quoted on the back of the paperback edition of this book!

Minder by Kate Kaynak is a must-read for fans of Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Powers series, or L.J. Smith’s Dark Visions trilogy. It’s about a school for psychically gifted teens, where they learn to use their powers for good—and some for evil.

Hex by Ramona Wray reminds me a lot of Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Hex is about a magically gifted girl who falls in love with a boy she learns is an angel—whose mission in life is to end her.

In the Spotlight by Ann Mauren is a great contemporary novel with adult appeal, though it is indeed a young adult novel. It’s about a girl who learns that she has a team of bodyguards watching her every move… and then she falls in love with one of them.

Phantom Universe by Laura Kreitzer is one of the best books I have ever read. It’s a dystopian novel about a terrifying futuristic world. It has pirates, time travel, and romance. What else do you need in a book?

So don’t be too quick to judge a book by its publisher—or lack of one. Good books don’t always get big publishers. And big publishers don’t always publish good books. Thanks, Amy, for having me on your blog.

Thank you for visiting today, Alex! I hope you all enjoyed learning about some new authors to add to our wishlists!

Interview with Felicity, Ashlyn's Best Friend

1. How long have you and Ashlyn been friends?

Since she came to Chatham four years ago but it feels like a ton longer.

2. How do you feel your sometimes restricted access to Ashlyn affects your friendship?

I’m not gonna lie, it sucks big time. There’s lots we could be doing if daddy-o wasn’t such a control freak. The man drives me nuts. What kind of father takes away a phone? I can’t BREATHE without my phone.

3. What is your opinion of Charles' extreme need to protect his daughter from...well, life?

*snort* He’s a whacked out weirdo. Okay, I get that he’s this high powered lawyer and he makes mountains of money but he’s on another planet when it comes to reality. He needs his head examined. I’ve told Ash to stand up to him, and, thankfully she’s starting to. She needs to live, you know?

4. Did you ever think Stuart could go that far (kidnapping) with his so-called 'love' for Ashlyn?

The guy always creeped me out. I mean, he started out nice enough way back when but lately….not so much. So, as to your question—I definitely was not surprised. The whole situation with him and her was just too close for comfort. Charles sure got bit in the butt by that one, huh?

And now that some of the tougher ones are done, on to some lighter questions:

5. What artists/bands currently reside on your playlist?

Don’t laugh but I’m a Disney geek. HSM 1-3. I HATE Lady Gaga. Detest the woman. I pretty much like happy songs from the 80’s too. OH, and hair metal!! White snake rocks!

6. How about books; which ones have earned a place on your 'keeper' shelf?

I’m a hardcore romance reader like Ash. Did she tell you I’m her supplier? *snort* sounds wicked, right? Island Heat by Jill Miles is my latest obsession. I haven’t given it to Ash yet.A Vampires Salvation by Virna DePaul was pretty hot too . The ‘classics’ bore me, I can’t get past the first page. Daddy’s Little Cowgirl by Charlotte Maclay was a fun read but I’m not into the whole cowboy lifestyle much. Keepers, keepers….hmmm. Twilight’s still on my top ten list but the series bombed after that IMO anyway.

And finally one I'm just dying to know: Tell me the truth (I won't tell Ashlyn *wink, wink*), what do you think of Colin?

Three words. I. Want. Him. *snort* like THAT’ll ever happen.

Wait, we’re done? I was just getting started. This was FUNNN!

Thank you Felicity for visiting today and giving us a different perspective into Ashlyn's life!

Fever by Lauren DeStefano:
Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.

In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins:
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Acher to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris:
Someone's been a very bad zombie.

Kate Grable is horrified to find out that the football coach has given the team steroids. Worse yet, the steroids are having an unexpected effect, turning hot gridiron hunks into mindless flesh-eating zombies. No one is safe--not her cute crush Aaron, not her dorky brother, Jonah . . . not even Kate!

She's got to find an antidote--before her entire high school ends up eating each other. So Kate, her best girlfriend, Rocky, and Aaron stage a frantic battle to save their town. . . and stay hormonally human.

Love That Line (14)

Love That Line is hosted by Jessica Rabbit's Corner, it's a little thing where we post a favorite quote or two from the book(s) currently on our night stands.

Evermore by Alyson Noel

"I don't want to talk," I whisper, holding my breath as his lips meet mine.

"I couldn't stand to lose you again," he mumbles, kneeling down beside me. "Not this time. Not again."

"Oh, so you see some chick in baggy jeans and a hoodie, and you just have to have her so bad, you decide to repeat high school, just to get to her?"
