On My Wishlist (19)
On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where we list all the books we desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too - Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own 'On My Wishlist' post. If you want to know more click here.
The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney:
Some schools have honor codes.
Others have handbooks.
Themis Academy has the Mockingbirds.
Themis Academy is a quiet boarding school with an exceptional student body that the administration trusts to always behave the honorable way--the Themis Way. So when Alex is date raped during her junior year, she has two options: stay silent and hope someone helps her, or enlist the Mockingbirds--a secret society of students dedicated to righting the wrongs of their fellow peers.
In this honest, page-turning account of a teen girl's struggle to stand up for herself, debut author Daisy Whitney reminds readers that if you love something or someone--especially yourself--you fight for it.
Drink of Me by Jacquelyn Frank:
In a world where emotion can be a deadly weapon, one slight, battered runaway holds the key to a dark and twisted enigma..."Drink Of Me", she whispers, her silver eyes trusting, pleading. What female dares speak such words to one of the Sange? His people are scorned by every race for their fierce sensuality, their fearful rituals. And as Prime, Reule is the most telepathically gifted of them all. But nothing has prepared him for the intensity of emotion radiating from the outlander rescued by his Pack. Terrified, tormented, but beautiful beyond measure, Mystique shatters his legendary control. As she reaches for him in the steamy heat of the healing baths, he knows this blind need can have but one end...
Second Skin by Judith Graves:
Eryn struggles to resist the beast clawing at her soul as darkness settles over her like a second skin. She's made a deal, and she can’t let a dead man down. Not unless she wants her friends and family to relocate – six feet under.
When Eryn and her crew each face their own demons, loyalties are tested and temptations abound. Can she share a future with the brooding, noble, human Alec – the hunter after her heart? Or will she succumb to her enemy’s son, Wade, a seductive predator as bloodthirsty as she is?
What happens when you’re both the beauty and the beast?

While I truly love teen angst books and would probably enjoy The Mockingbirds, rape is a very sore subject for me so not sure how I would deal with the fallout reading the book would cause my brain... I know it would believe or not give me nightmares!
ReplyDeleteThe other two you picked this week since know they are just out and out fantasy no matter how bloody will not bother me and want them both myself!
hope you get your books to read Amy, My Wish List is for an E-book which unless I get a Kindle to read will have to wait until it comes out in MMPB!
jackie ^_^
Second Skin seems really intersting - what's the first of the series called?
ReplyDelete@Jackie - I know what you mean re Mockingbirds - not an easy read I imagine but could be worth it. Similar to The Lovely Bones which was a hard book to read in the first couple of chapters but had a satisfying conclusion.
with BBW and all the blogging about Speak, I saw The Mockingbirds mentioned as another good book about sexual assault; I really want to read it. And Drink of Me sounds good too!
ReplyDeleteI want to read The Mockingbirds too! Hope you get to read these soon.
ReplyDeleteHere are the books on my wishlist this week.
I'm probably going to add Mockingbirds to my wishlist too. Here's what I'm wishing for this week.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I actually got an ARC of Drink of Me at the AAD! =))
