The Heartbreakers Blog Tour Day 4

In a paragraph or two:
1. Tell us about your most romantic experience (either as an adult or as a teenager).

When I was dating my husband, he would leave me love poems in my purse. I would read them while sitting on the train on my way to work and it always made me smile. Of course, this happened in England, and English people are always suspicious of people sitting on their own smiling.

2. Which literary character embodies true romance to you?

Darcy from Pride and Prejudice because of how he prevented disgrace falling on the Bennet family when Lydia ran off, and it was all for the love of Elizabeth.

In a paragraph or two:
1. Tell us about your most romantic experience (either as an adult or as a teenager).

I met my husband whilst living on a literary ship that sailed around the world selling books to the developing world. That in itself sounds romantic. We met in CuraƧao, started dating in Mexico, got engaged in Chile, and had our wedding in Seattle. The engagement was nice. He rented a little paddle boat and brought me out to the middle of this lake with mountains all around and got down on one knee - even with the boat wobbling in the water, and asked me to marry him. I said yes.

2. Which literary character embodies true romance to you?

I really liked Fanny Price in Mansfield Park. Of course, I love Pride and Prejudice, but there is something about Fanny's unwavering way that inspires me. She held firm and in the end was rewarded for it. I also love Jane Eyre. I love Gilbert and Anne's love story. And I loved Jo's romance at the end of Little Women with the German man. I also absolutely loved Adam and Mia's relationship in the novel If I Stay. I think what I appreciate about all of these is an authenticity - they weren't forced. Love came but it wasn't all sentiment and mush. I appreciate love stories that reveal strong and good and honest characters.
