Interview & Giveaway with Author Jessica Miller

1. When did you first start writing, and was there something in particular that inspired you?

I first started writing a few years ago. A friend of mine got me to start writing. I used to joke I know so much gossip I could write a book. Her response was, ‘why don’t you?’ She encouraged me to try something new and just go for it, because, what did I have to lose? I was so glad I took her advice because now I can’t see myself doing anything else.

2. What first attracted you to your genre when you began writing?

I’m a big fan of paranormal books, but oddly my first book was a contemporary romance. I was always making up stories in my head when I was younger. So with my first book I just kind of went with it. But for my second I had so much fun because I love folk lore and I could give the characters powers and just make up crazy stuff which is more fun. I was always interested in supernatural stuff.

3. In regards to your own characters, who is your favorite to write and why?

I love writing Tristan and most of the other guy characters. Tristan because he’s an ass and says what he wants and doesn’t give excuses for his behavior. I’m very sarcastic myself and there’s always a lot of things I want to say to people but can’t, well won’t, because it’s rude. But with Tristan I don’t have to hold back.

4. What other genres (besides your own) do you enjoy reading?

I’m really getting into the New Adult books. I also admit I enjoy the smut books. (Smut not erotica and yes there is a difference.) I don’t read horror or non-fiction. Horror just scares me. I let my imagination get the best of me and I scare the crap out of myself. Don’t like cheesy romances because, well, they’re cheesy. Cheesy makes me roll my eyes and then my head hurts from all the eye rolls.

5. As a reader I know how difficult it can be to name a ‘favorite’ book, would you mind listing your top three? (Past or present authors)

That is a hard one because there are so many that I loved. But if I have to name a few I would say The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, Beautiful Disaster/Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire, and The edge of never by J.A. Redmerski.

6. What are some ‘must haves’ when you sit down to write?

TV or music. I need background noise. My mind wanders too much so I need other distractions to keep me focused. I know it’s weird but it works for me. I think it’s because I’m a multi-tasker.

7. If you became trapped as a character in a book or series, which would you choose and why? (Any book, any series, new or old)

I would have to say Ella from my book The Wanderers. Ella is a lot like me in some ways. I can relate to a lot of things she goes through. And pretty much the only other reason why, Tristan. Enough said.

The Wanderers:
What do you do when you learn your family is the one who's holding all the secrets? Secrets that could get you killed...

Ella is looking forward to starting college in the fall with her best friend Josie. She’s looking for a place where she can get away from her overbearing parents and two older annoying brothers. Unfortunately Ella realizes that sometimes the past comes back to haunt you.

Ella soon learns that the man who terrorizes her dreams is in fact real and coming after her.

When one of her classmates is murdered, Ella slowly recognizes this is not some strange coincidence. Ella fears that the boy she’s falling in love with is the one who stalks her dreams and no longer knows who she can trust.

When she finally learns the truth of her family's deepest secret, Ella has to face her demons by taking out one of the people she thought she could trust…before they kill her.
