Interview & Giveaway with Leah D.W.

1. When did you first start writing, and was there something in particular that inspired you?
I was about 13 years old and I guess what inspired me to turn my writing into something was the influence of the creative writing essays we had to do in school. I took an essay that had gotten really good marks and turned it into a longer story. I let my mother read it and she thought it was great. So I started writing even more, making my own versions of the Power Rangers and Mew Mew Power, until I started actually reading and then my imagination became broader.

2. What first attracted you to your genre when you began writing?
All the books I started reading. First it was Nancy Drew and Animorphs, so I was mostly interested in fantasy and mysteries, until it expanded to Harry Potter and The Prophecy of the Gems. I became interested in the dark world of fantasy and it then led me to paranormal. I hated romance stories but after reading Vampire Academy I was hooked with paranormal romance. That’s when I focused more on writing paranormal than fantasy.

3. In regards to your own characters, who is your favorite to write and why?
I am currently writing a dark fantasy with paranormal elements called Demon Princess. My fave character to write is known as ‘The Demon’ and he is awesome! Witty, a smart ass and sarcasm really is his colour. I love him to bits even though he is, kind of, the bad guy in my novel. I love him and I am sure the readers will love him once they meet him.

4. What other genres (besides your own) do you enjoy reading?
That’s a rough one. Um perhaps mystery murders like Sherlock Holmes but that is basically it. I can’t stay away from reading paranormal romance and really don’t want to.

5. As a reader I know how difficult it can be to name a ‘favorite’ book, would you mind listing your top three? (Past or present authors)
My top three would have to be Graceling by Kristin Cashore (brilliant), Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (woop!) and Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini (amazing!)

6. What are some ‘must haves’ when you sit down to write?
A comfy place to sit like my bed or the couch, background noise which is usually either music or the TV and something to chew on. I cannot concentrate without noise and eating something like dried fruit or popcorn.

7. If you became trapped as a character in a book or series, which would you choose and why? (Any book, any series, new or old)
There are so many to choose from! I guess if I had to pick one it would have to be being Rose Hathaway from VA. Only because of her kick ass character and she gets to be with Adrian and Dimitri (swoon!)

The Runaway's Secret:
Running from the past…

Running from myself….

To protect those you love, some secrets should never come to light.

My life changed the night I became the same monster I had been forced to serve all my human years. As a fanged freak, I took to running away from my troubles rather than facing them head-on.

I should have kept running...

My world turned upside down once more when I met Solomon. He promised that I would be safe locked up in a fancy academy filled with supernatural creatures just like me. He promised that I had nothing to fear.

If only that had been true.

How long before the nightmares catch up to me? I’d hated myself for the monster that I’d become and the life I had been forced to leave behind. Sometimes I wished that she would find and kill me, ending this nightmarish existence, but that would mean leaving everyone I had come to know and love as well. Could I possibly do that?

...time is running out, I must make a choice.

...until then, I must keep running.

...must become the monster even I have come to fear.
