Love That Line (25)

Love That Line is hosted by Jessica Rabbit's Corner, it's a little thing where we post a favorite quote or two from a book we have enjoyed.

Darklight by Lesley Livingston

"C'mon," he said and offered her an elbow. "Let's go make sure the others weren't eaten or killed."

"You killed a tree?"
"It tried to kill me first."

The Wolf grinned coldly. "Hard to manhandle a man who's more than happy to break your hand."

Theme Thursday (44)

Theme Thursdays

Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event hosted by Reading Between Pages that will be open from one Thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:
  • A theme will be posted each week (on Thursdays)
  • Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
  • Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
  • It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have “They kissed so gently” or “Their lips touched each other” or “The smooch was so passionate”

This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.

This week's theme is - KNOW (aware, knowing, realize etc)

"Do you know what this is?"
Larson leaned back and gulped, his Adam's apple bobbing. "A cross?"

My Book Boyfriend (50)

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme hosted by Missie of The Unread Reader, in which we swoon over boys in books!
(I--as in me, Amy--don't like to use commercial photos, I like to use the authors' descriptions and my imagination.)

Matthias
Book: Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens
Series: Heavenly

He is a guardian angel. Piercing, crystal blue eyes, and a voice that is deep and calm, like warm water pouring. When he smiles it feels as though a stream of sunlight surrounds you. His body is lean under his caressing clothes, toffee colored hair in soft curls that are stark against his pale, unblemished skin. Full lips and a gorgeous mouth. When he is close, you feel warm, comforted and safe.

Quotes:

He seemed to ponder my words, but his gaze stayed on Abria in a kind, sympathetic way. Most teenagers I explained Abria's handicap to eyed her with fascination and pity, along with a good measure of horror. He must be older than he looks, I thought, because there was none of the awkward discomfort so many of my peers expressed when they saw my sister.

"A hottie?" He pressed his palms to his cheeks, then accross his forehead, confusion on his face. "I don't feel hot."
I laughed. "You're good looking. Attractive. Handsome. Any of those words ring a bell?"
"Oh, oh, I see." The color of his cheeks bloomed into a lovely blush.

"A pretty doll like youshouldn't waste her time being angry."
A sigh fluttered from my lungs. "You keep saying stuff like that and I'll find ways to be riled just to hear you talk."
He smiled.

Destiny and Deception (ARC) by Shannon Delany

Destiny and Deception:
The sensational fourth novel in the 13 to Life series sees Jessica and the Rusakoas fighting to overcome one of their biggest challenges yet--the possibility of a cure for lycanthropy. With the threat of the mafia seemingly gone and the company's headquarters in Junction destroyed, Pietr Rusakova is adjusting to being a normal teen and Jess is realizing normalcy may not be what she wanted after all. But both Jess and Cat know the truth--that normal can't be taken for granted. Their precious cure isn't permanent--and when a new danger stalks into their small town, Alexi decides he must overcome his issues with the mother who abandoned him to be raised by wolves and make a brand new deal to save his adopted family.

First of all...what a cliff-hanger-of-an-ending! Danger, Russian Mafia, new adversaries and romance...This series by Shannon Delany just gets more and more intense with each new addition. But the constant and unpredictable changing point of views were bothersome to me. However, at the same time, I can understand why the book needs to be written like that, I just dislike jumping all over the place, even when I'm absolutely loving the story. Shannon's characters really jumped off the page for me, and at this point in the series, I thought that I knew everything about them, but I'm always learning something new. And there are secrets that have yet to be revealed. Jessie's relationship with Pietr changes drastically, and Max works to prove his affections for Amy while trying not to frighten her away. Alexi has a decision to make about his future, and the future of his family. There were so many twists and turns that this book was simply non-stop-page-turning intensity, fans of this series will absolutely love Destiny and Deception.

Cursed Blog Tour with S. A. Archer

A Seductive Curse

Imagine… Just an ordinary evening in a familiar night spot. Across the room you notice a stranger. Someone not just attractive, but downright gorgeous. A guy so model-perfect that he could never exist outside of the photoshopped cover of a fashion magazine; only there he is. And his eyes are fixed on you. Dark eyes that capture your gaze. Is it your imagination, or do you feel drawn in by the gravity of those eyes? Your heart beats against the inside of your chest with desire… or is it fear? Either way, it steals your breath.

And then he rises. Crosses the room. Heading directly toward you like he sees no one else. Only you. He draws closer and the air thickens with magic and expectation. Tall and confident, he strides nearer. However handsome he appeared from across the room, it is overshadowed by the pure stunning sexiness of him as he reaches you. He does not stop. He does not speak. Instead he cups your face in his hands. His mouth meets yours. Lips both soft and insistent. A flick of the tongue against your lips bids you to open and, before you even think about it, you do. The passion invades your mouth with a magic both sensual and thick. You taste the power. The lust. Your moan can’t escape the perfect blending of your lips with his.

His magic washes through you. Pouring into you. Saturating every fiber. Imprinting on every cell. Scarring your very soul. The magic carries desire. Passion. Lust. Instantly overwhelming and utterly shattering. It thunders through your body with the power of a hurricane, destroying everything you were and consuming you in this brilliant moment of pleasure with a magic that spares not a fragment of your sanity. Devastated and renewed in an instant. You are cursed.

He breaks the kiss and the magic ceases as quickly as it surged. The moment has past. Where the fire of passion once burned in those dark eyes of his, you see something else now. Something cold. He knows. He knows your body still buzzes with want. He knows that as the magic inside you fades that your desire will turn into obsession. That your need will twist into agony. He knows that the only thing that will ever satisfy, and spare you this torment, is another taste of his magic, of the Touch. You belong to him now. He is Sidhe, and none but his kind possesses the Touch. There is no cure. There is no substitute. With just one Touch the life you once knew has shattered.

What do you do now?

That is the question the faces London Eyer in her series, Touched. As a private investigator used to working with vampires and werewolves, she thought she could handle working with a Sidhe. In her first book, Cursed, London faces what you just experienced. Torn between the addiction to a magic she never wanted and her desire to regain control of her own life, London must plunge herself into the dangerous world of the fey before the curse destroys her.

Untraceable by S.R. Johannes:
16 year old Grace has lived in the Smokies all her life, patrolling with her forest ranger father who taught her about wildlife, tracking, and wilderness survival.

When her dad goes missing on a routine patrol, Grace refuses to believe he’s dead and fights the town authorities, tribal officials, and nature to find him.

One day, while out tracking clues, Grace is rescued from danger by Mo, a hot guy with an intoxicating accent and a secret. As her feelings between him and her ex-boyfriend get muddled, Grace travels deep into the wilderness to escape and find her father.

Along the way, Grace learns terrible secrets that sever relationships and lives. Soon she’s enmeshed in a web of conspiracy, deception, and murder. And it’s going to take a lot more than a compass and a motorcycle (named Lucifer) for this kick-butting heroine to save everything she loves.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi:
Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Time Mends by Tammy Blackwell:
After a tragic accident leaves her battered, heartbroken, and alone, Scout Donovan would rather hide in dreams than face reality. But things are changing quickly in Scout's life. Soon she's pulled back into the world of Shifters and Seers, with her best friend's fate depending on Scout's ability to protect her. Can Scout pull it together in time to save Talley, or is the past too much to overcome?
