The Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan

The Demon's Covenant:
Mae Crawford has always thought of herself as in control, but in the last few weeks her life has changed. Her younger brother Jamie suddenly has magical powers, and she’s even more unsettled when she realizes that Gerald, the new leader of the Obsidian Circle, is trying to persuade Jamie to join the magicians. Even worse…Jamie hasn’t told Mae a thing about any of it. Mae turns to brothers Nick and Alan to help her rescue Jamie, but they are in danger from Gerald themselves because he wants to steal Nick’s powers. Will Mae be able to find a way to save everyone she cares about from the power-hungry magician’s carefully laid trap?

This is second in the Demon's Lexicon trilogy by Sarah Rees Brennan, and it's filled with even more action, secrets and revelations. Her vivid storytelling pulled me right into the streets of London, and I enjoyed seeing Sarah's world through Mae's eyes; because I was learning about magic, demons and the Goblin Market alongside her. In the previous book, The Demon's Lexicon, the story was told through Nick's perspective and he was already familiar with the world of magicians and demons. Now that we know Nick is truly a demon, and Alan will lie to anyone in order to protect him, I found myself reading long into the night, hungry to find out which new twist would lead to which new turn of events. Sarah has kept me so intrigued with the world she has created, that I grabbed my copy of The Demon's Surrender and cracked it open before I even had a chance start my review for The Demon's Covenant.
