Why Haven't I Read You? (41)

Every Wednesday I’ll choose a book off one of my (many, many) shelves that I haven’t read for some reason or another, and include the first few lines from the first page.
Feel free to join in, and comment about the books I feature if you have read them!

What happens in Texas stays in Texas. Except when demons are involved.
I was sitting on the sagging porch of the old farmhouse, sipping an ice-cold ginger ale, when a red pickup truck appeared around the last bend of the long, curving driveway. I stood, shielding my eyes against the late-afternoon sun—noticing, as had become my habit, the gold glimmer of my wedding ring standing out in stark relief against the obsidian, mercury-streaked tattoos that covered my entire left hand.

  1. Drip. Drip. Drip. I ran blindly through the foilage and dashed for the river, my dress like a tail behind me. My heart rate was unnatural, impossible, as I dodged the flames and angry faces encircling me. The hands below my feet taunted - evil words that carved evil images in my mind. Where nightingales had been, vultures with red, beady eyes now vacated their place among the trees.
    Deceiving Destiny by Nadege Richards

The book you selected is also waiting for me. Good choice. I like the idea you have. I may join you this Wednesday on .http://www.alaskanbookcafe.com/
